Help

Everything you need to get the most out of VODey.

🚀 Getting Started

VODey uses Twitch or Google (for YouTube) to sign in. You don't need to create a separate account — just pick the platform you want to start with on the sign-in page. Both signing in and using VODey's core features are free.

Link your accounts

After signing in with one provider, go to Settings to link the other. Linking both Twitch and Google lets VODey pull your follows from each platform into a single library. There's no limit on how many providers you can link.

Sync your follows

In Settings, click "Sync Follows" for each linked platform. This imports the channels you follow on Twitch or subscribe to on YouTube, making them browsable on the Streamers page. Free for all users.

📺 Streamers & VODs

Browse streamers

The Streamers page shows your followed channels. Click any streamer to open their detail page. Browsing is unlimited for all users.

Sync VODs

On a streamer detail page, click "Sync VODs" to pull their latest videos. Free accounts sync up to 20 VODs at a time. Premium accounts sync up to 500 — useful when you want a deeper history from a streamer you just discovered.

Date range filtering

Available to everyone. Use the preset buttons (Past week, Past month, etc.) or the custom date picker to sync videos from a specific date range. Free accounts get up to 20 VODs in the range; Premium gets up to 500. Existing VODs not in any playlist are replaced; VODs already in a playlist are preserved.

New VODs page

Available to everyone. Shows recent uploads from the last 2 weeks across all your followed streamers. Watched videos drop off the list automatically.

Advanced video search (Premium)

Premium users can search a streamer's entire video catalog by keyword, going beyond the latest 20 syncs. Free accounts can browse the most recently synced 20 videos.

📋 Playlists

Create a playlist

On the Playlists page, click "+ New Playlist". Free accounts can have up to 5 playlists. Premium accounts have no limit — create as many as you want, for any purpose.

Add videos to a playlist

Available to all users. On any streamer's page, click the + button on a VOD tile to add it. You can also paste a Twitch or YouTube URL directly into a playlist to import any single video, even from streamers you don't follow.

Edit playlist details

Free for all users. On a playlist detail page, click the pencil icon next to the title or description to edit them inline. Press Enter to save or Escape to cancel.

Mark videos as watched

Available to all users. Click ✓ Watched on any item to mark it watched. Watched items are dimmed and excluded from the New VODs page so you only see unwatched content there.

Watch from start

Available to all users. Click "Watch from start" on any playlist to open the first VOD with playlist navigation enabled.

Custom cover images (Premium)

Premium users can upload a 16:9 image (JPEG, PNG, or WebP, up to 2 MB) as a playlist cover. The image shows on the playlist tile, the detail hero, and the Discover page. Free playlists use the default tile design.

🌐 Discover & Following

Public playlists (Premium to create)

Anyone — including signed-out visitors — can browse the Discover page and view public playlists. Premium users can mark their own playlists as public to share them with the community. Free accounts keep playlists private.

Priority visibility (Premium)

Premium creators' public playlists are boosted in Discover search results, helping their playlists get found by more people.

Follow creators

Available to all signed-in users. On any public playlist, click "+ Follow" to follow the creator. Their public playlists then appear on your Followed Creators page.

Search Discover

Available to everyone, including guests. Search for playlists by streamer name, creator name, or playlist title from the Discover page.

Search followed creators

Free for all signed-in users. Search across your followed creators by creator name, playlist title, or description. Sort by recent activity or alphabetically.

Share a playlist

Free for all users to view a shared playlist. On any public playlist detail page, click the 🔗 Share button to copy the link. Premium users can make their playlists public to enable sharing.

Premium

What's in Premium

Premium unlocks: public playlists, custom cover images, unlimited playlist creation (vs. 5 for free), deep VOD sync (up to 500 per streamer vs. 20 for free), priority visibility in Discover, and advanced video search. New Premium features ship at no extra cost as we add them.

What's free forever

Signing in, linking accounts, syncing follows, browsing streamers, creating up to 5 playlists, the New VODs page, marking videos watched, sharing watch progress, viewing and following public playlists, the Discover page, and the Followed Creators page. The core experience is always free.

How to upgrade

Visit the Premium page and click "Support on Patreon." After subscribing on Patreon, your VODey account is manually upgraded within 24 hours. There's no automatic billing inside VODey — your subscription stays in Patreon, and you can cancel anytime there.

What happens if I cancel Premium

Your account reverts to free tier. Your existing playlists are kept (even if you have more than 5 — you just can't create new ones until you're under the limit). Public playlists automatically become private. Custom cover images are retained but won't be shown on Discover. Re-subscribing restores everything immediately.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a separate VODey account?

No. You sign in using your existing Twitch or Google account. VODey just stores your display name, email, and avatar for the app — we never post on your behalf.

Why do I need to link both Twitch and YouTube?

They're separate platforms with separate APIs, so VODey needs permission from each to read your follows or subscriptions. You don't have to link both, but you'll only see content from the platforms you've linked.

What happens to my playlists if I unlink an account?

Your playlists stay intact. Unlinking only removes that provider as a sign-in method. As long as you have another provider linked, your account and playlists are preserved.

Why do some VODs show "LIVE" instead of a thumbnail?

When a Twitch streamer is currently live, the VOD record for the in-progress stream doesn't have a thumbnail yet. The thumbnail appears once the stream ends and the VOD is processed.

Why don't I see older VODs from Twitch streamers?

Twitch only retains VODs for 14 days (regular streamers), 60 days (affiliates), or indefinitely (partners with archive enabled). Older VODs are deleted by Twitch and can't be recovered. Most streamers upload their VODs to YouTube, so do a search to see if you can find them. You can then add the VODs to your VODey playlists.

How do I become a Premium user?

Subscribe to VODey on Patreon. After your Patreon subscription is active, the account holder will manually upgrade your VODey account within 24 hours.

Can I make my playlists public if I'm on the free tier?

Public playlists are a Premium feature. Free users can still create up to 5 playlists, but they're private by default.

What is the playlist limit for free users?

Free accounts can create up to 5 playlists. Premium accounts have no limit. If you're at the limit, you can delete an old playlist or upgrade to Premium to create more.

Why was my public playlist removed from Discover?

If a playlist was reported or contains inappropriate content, an admin may remove it from the public Discover page. The playlist itself isn't deleted — you'll still see it privately in your own playlist list, but it won't be visible to others until reviewed.

Is VODey free to use?

Yes. The core experience is free. Premium is an optional subscription that unlocks extra features and helps fund development. There are no ads.
